Track window tinting alongside detailing
Use Costbook to estimate tinting jobs, record film usage and compare the final costs with your estimate.

1. Name the service clearly
Enter a service name such as “Front two windows — ceramic tint.” You can add an optional “Window tint” report category to group tinting jobs in Results. State which windows, film product and options are included. List removal of old film separately if it is extra work.
2. Add the film as a material
In Supplies, add a product such as “Example ceramic film — 36-inch roll.” Choose square feet or a length unit at a fixed roll width. Keep pack size, stock and job usage in that same unit. Costbook does not convert area to length for you.
Example: a roll contains 300 sq ft and costs $450. That is $1.50 per sq ft. If you use 30 sq ft on the vehicle and discard 6 sq ft of offcuts, record 36 sq ft used. The film cost for the job is $54. Add other materials separately. These are example costs.
3. Include the whole job’s time
Allow for inspection, prep, installation, cleanup and handover. Add travel if needed. Include time for old-film removal and allow for film offcuts when estimating material use.
4. Agree the price before doing extra work
Show the customer what is included, optional extras and any applicable tax. If the work changes, explain the new work and price before proceeding. More time spent does not, by itself, mean the customer owes more.
5. Compare the result
After the job, correct material quantities and record actual hours. Finish the job to deduct stock once. Open Results to compare your service categories. Compare completed tinting jobs to estimate similar work more accurately.
What Costbook does not do
It does not choose a legal tint percentage, provide film-cutting patterns, track roll batches or manage warranties. Check applicable tint rules and your manufacturer’s requirements separately. For more advanced tint operations, specialist software may be a better fit.
